Red Cross Completes Major Annual Fundraiser to Support Aid
in Hopkins County
November 2, 2009
MADISONVILLE, Ky The Mid-West Kentucky Chapter of the American Red Cross completed its 2009 Major Gifts Campaign on October 26, exceeding its goal by nearly $3,000. The organization set a goal of $60,000 in donations so that it can best serve Hopkins County residents. Donation funds go towards providing relief to victims of disaster, as well as to help prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The total amount received in money and pledges for 2009 was $62,760.
Many organizations across the country are struggling with financial donations due to the down economy, said Executive Director Jeanie Barnett. We are so proud of the people of Hopkins County who have recognized the work of the Red Cross and made a commitment to help us help others.
Since July 1, eight Hopkins County families have received direct assistance from the community through the Red Cross because of house fires. Monies provided through the Major Gifts campaign went towards their assistance.
During the last year, the Red Cross provided a total of $21,000 worth of emergency assistance to 34 families totaling 108 local residents.
The 2009 Major Gifts Campaign was chaired by Kent Mills, Market President with Old National Bank. He led six teams of fundraisers. They included:
Captain Shaun Roberts
Team members Bert and Harriet Whitaker, Liz Patterson and David Jackson
Captain Lara Hunt
Team members Amy Sanderson, Ron Sanders, Jim Greene and Barbie Hunt
Captain Michael Hunt
Team members Tom Morgan, Sharon Smith
Captain Jeanie Barnett
Team members Jim Walker, Mike Barton, and Stacey McCuiston
Captain Denise Young
Team members Tammy Sanders, Shelia Carter, and Lisa Moberly
Captain Barry Vaughn
Team members David Kyle, Bill Murphy and Wayne Edwards
The Red Cross continues to take donations throughout the year. Donations can be directed to 124 N. Scott Street, Madisonville, KY 42431
